What to do?

Today I went online and researched all the different museums, special exhibitions, the various design schools, and a dozen must-see buildings. I got on my bike, ready to find them, and then couldn't stop. The weather was beautiful, a little windy, but clear and crisp. I felt like doing some sketching, but my bike just would not let me stop. I rode all over town, beyond the boundaries that my map showed, for six hours and until my legs and body ached. I saw so much! I even started taking some pictures, thank god, but still no sketching. I sort of felt a little drawer's block, I am a little rusty after all. I need to just jump in. Copenhagen is absolutely beautiful! Every piece of built space seems to have been designed by a genius: street lights, bike lanes, old simple appartment buildings, they even have wonderfully designed industrial buildings. Is it possible that everyone here is in fact, genius? I stopped by the design school, the one that focuses on fashion, textiles, glass, ceramics, graphic/industrial design. It was an accident actually, like most of the day's discoveries, I was trying to find my way back to the city center and just rode by. Unfortunately there was no gallery or even a window display of their work, but the campus and work space looked magical and creative. I walked away feeling a little jealous... but mostly inspired.

thurs night: check. check.

I went to the swimming pool and got a very nice warm shower. I went grocery shopping, and I even took a long nap (I had some catching up to do). Then I walked back towards the city center to try and find myslef a bike. After stopping into half a dozen bike shops (they're everywhere!) I almost bought a hot pink 3 speed for 800 kronen, but I finally found the rental shop and rented a bike for 285 kronen for two weeks, I think thats a better deal, hmm? Then I rode around in the rain for an hour with all the other crazy commuters. It was exhilerating! At one point I rode by a beautiful old church with over 100 pumkins all carved, and the bells ringing. It was a little surreal. I need to take more pictures.

thurs morning: find a shower, get a bike...

Denmark made its first real impression on me from a very full airplane circling the airport, ready to land. Water, islands, flat. One of the first things I saw was a huge suspension bridge that went on and on, then stopped suddenly, maybe a half a mile away from the land it seemed to be reaching for. Bold and mysterious, very foreign. I found out later that it becomes a tunnel right before it meets the Swedish border. So, I get off the plane, get my bag (mine was the first bag out of the gates) and then try to find a telephone to call Mikael. ring, ring, then a womans voice recording of Danish Gibberish...oh wait, its in english too (how convenient)..."this subscriber can not be reached at this time"...oh shit...try again....oh shit...no, I'm OK, this is an adventure after all. So I walk outside, go to the first bus I see, ask if its going to the city center and get on. I get out at the first busy place I see, which turns out to be the government center, RÄdhuspladsen. Its a very busy area at 4:30 in the afternoon. Cars, buses, but most of all, bikes. They're everywhere! I have never seen so many people biking. Anyways, I ask around for an internet cafe, sure enough theres one a block away. I send Mikael an email and within minutes he has emailed me back and we are talking on the phone. I get directions, and get in a cab, who proceeds to use his fancy GPS to find his way to Mikael's. Anyways, Mikael and I get acquainted, eat some pizza, drink some beers, talk about friends, music, snowboarding, politics, design, and our common bond, Jonah and Sarah. I get along with him very well and I am very lucky to have such a nice place to stay, even though hedoesn't have a shower.
TO-DO: get a shower, find a bike...

Flying

My to-do list had 12 items on it tuesday morning, not including "finish cleaning the house". Ridiculous; overwhelming; of course. Now I am in Frankfurt waiting to board a plane to Copenhagen. I lost 9 hours, but the flight was fast and easy. No sleeping to speak of, but I could almost say it was comfortable. We watched "fever pitch", and as cute as Jimmy Fallon, Drew Barrymore and good ol' fashioned Baseball may be, It mad me glad to be leaving the US, and our attachment to cliche. Of course there are plenty of cliches where I am going, but they are foreign and new to me.
A sunset over the Canadian mountain ranges and sunrise over Denmark (maybe 3 or 4 hours apart) made not sleeping between them bareable. I will always be intrigued by aerial views. Flying is fun, but its the sights that take my breath away.

It's about time...

...that I went on an adventure. I bet you thought I was going to say "...start a blog." No, and I'm sorry about this. I want to stay in touch with everyone and post some photos from my travels, so it just seemed like the best thing to do. Anyways, I'm moving right now. It sucks. My last night at the Rogue is tonight and then a party on Saturday and then I leave for Copenhagen on Tuesday! I can't wait...
